help back in Jesus’ time and often succeded in effecting cures

(As viewed by many pagans, Christians who performed

exorcisms and miracles were themselves considered to be

magicians )

Good question. If you have not seen the movie “The Serpent and the Rainbow” you might want to watch it. The movie follows a scientist who works for a pharmaceutical company and he is trying to get a Voodoo priest to show him the way they make zombies so that he can discover a new anesthesia. The movie is fascinating and it explains how drug manufacturers research herbal medicine for cures in the everyday world.

We natural healers have had many secrets borrowed from us by the pharmaceutical companies. So yes there is a crossover between “the belief” in drugs and a faith in the ability for the body to heal itself. Ancient healers were not beyond using an elixer of life (a placebo) made from bitter herbs to make the patient heal themselves.
